Engineering High-Performance Roofing System for Steep Pitch Roofs

ENGINEERING A HIGH-PERFORMANCE ROOFING SYSTEM FOR STEEP PITCH ROOFS

(CLAY, CONCRETE, INSPIRE, STEEL)

COURSE CREDITS:
PDH Potential 1 Hour, Canada Potential 1 Learning Credit, AIA 1 LU | HSW

Learners will closely evaluate steep-slope roofs, examining materials and practices that improve roof performance. By the end of the course, they will be able to identify key characteristics of roofing systems that prevent roof deterioration and damage, providing protection to the occupants within the structure. Finally, learners will evaluate best practices in detailing steep slope roof systems to mitigate water, ice, or weather damage to the structure.

The Rise of Gabled Modern Architecture

THE RISE OF GABLED MODERN ARCHITECTURE: FROM ORIGINS TO FUTURE DIRECTIONS

(CLAY, CONCRETE, INSPIRE, STEEL)

COURSE CREDITS:
AIA 1 LU | Elective, Canada Potential 1 Learning Credit

The Gabled Modern is an architectural design trend that was only labeled as such in recent years. Because of this, its origins and rise to prominence are largely unknown and misunderstood. Readers will explore the origins of Gabled Moderns in historical architectural vernacular and learn which style and design characteristics are shared, and how the modern trends deviate from traditional uses.

Next, a discussion of the primary trends influencing Gabled Moderns will help explain what is causing this design trend to propel into mainstream architecture, and the various ways the Gabled Modern style can be applied.

New Clay Roofing Trends

NEW CLAY ROOFING TRENDS: EMERGING DIRECTIONS & FUTURE APPLICATIONS (PRINT COURSE)

(CLAY ONLY)

COURSE CREDITS:
AIA 1 LU | Elective, Canada Potential 1 Learning Credit

This particular study marries architectural research and design forecasting practices to review the clay roof market under a forensic “design microscope.” Much of the material presented highlights emerging trends for Early Adopters to Early Majority consumers of luxury contemporary design and is ideal for architects, builders, and developers focused on that segment. Additionally, a portion of the material presented identifies more progressive design topics, which highlights “out-of-the-box” ideas for custom residential and commercial projects.
